Community Climate Planning and Action Toolbox
- On April 15, 2024
Around the globe, weather is becoming less predictable and extreme events are becoming more common. These events, such as floods and wildfires, do not affect everyone in a country equally – most of the time, they impact specific communities. Responses to past events and possible future risks must be effective at this local level too.
The APA Minneapolis conference in 2024 included a session called “Community Climate Planning and Action Toolbox” that highlighted new resources for community action and for measuring results. One of the intriguing programs discussed is being led by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF). The One Planet City Challenge’s aim is “to help foster cities around the globe that enable all people and nature to thrive within the ecological limits of our one and only planet.” I was excited to learn that over 900 cities in 70 countries have joined this initiative. As individual communities work to address these overwhelming challenges, it’s great to see respected organizations like WWF stepping up to provide resources.
