Kudos to Civity!

Civity is “a national nonprofit organization that works with people to build the relational infrastructure necessary for communities in which everyone has what they need to thrive”. It defines ‘civity’ as “a culture of deliberately engaging in relationships of respect and empathy with others who are different”. By assisting communities and organizations, and training local people, Civity has made a difference in trust and communication across the divides that seem to be growing daily.

One of its founders, Malka Ranjana Kopell, is a graduate school classmate of Karen’s. We’ve enjoyed comparing notes on our various projects over the years and find ourselves facing some of the same challenges and considering similar solutions to building community.

Civity’s great work was featured in a segment on the July 17, 2025 edition of the PBS Newshour! This is an excellent introduction to important work that is making a difference in communities today.
