Strategic Community Solutions conducted a strategic planning session in May 2008 for the Board of Directors of the professional organization for the state’s planners. The APA Texas President requested this assistance so the Board could evaluate its recent activities and consider changes in direction for the future. The one-day session brought together long-time organizational leaders and recently-elected leaders; it enabled the group to draft a vision and an updated set of action priorities. Ms. Walz assisted the Board in reaching further agreement on a vision and strategic plan framework at the June 2009 Board meeting.
A second strategic planning session was conducted for the APA Texas Board of Directors in May 2015. This session enabled the board to discuss emerging trends and challenges, and to develop an updated organizational strategic plan. This plan was adopted by the Board in October 2015.
A third strategic planning session was conducted in June 2017. It focused on priorities for the next five years, in keeping with direction from the national organization to adopt Development Plans for five-year periods. An online survey of the entire APA Texas membership followed. The results of these efforts should lead to a strategic plan for adoption in October 2017.
