Project Description
The Trinity River Urban Design and Transportation Study was a unique effort to evaluate and enhance Dallas’ plans for the Trinity River Corridor. This study was privately funded, with Dallas Mayor Laura Miller and Dallas County Judge Lee Jackson as clients and three organizations (DallasAIA, the Dallas Institute of Humanities and Culture and The Dallas Plan) as collaborating partners. In her role as The Dallas Plan’s Executive Director, Ms. Walz served as the project manager for these clients and organizations. Responsibilities included oversight and direction for a nationally-recognized consultant team, public involvement and outreach, planning and urban design and negotiation among various public agencies and interested organizations. The study resulted in a “Balanced Vision Plan” for the Trinity River Corridor, which was adopted by the Dallas City Council in December 2003. Its recommendations for flood protection, transportation, environmental management, recreation and community development are now being implemented by the City of Dallas and other governmental, private and civic organizations.
