Flooding in Fort Worth TX

This was the topic of the second session SCS led at the APA Texas 2019 annual conference.  Karen Walz organized and moderated the session.  It featured Jennifer Dyke P.E., Senior Planner in the City of Fort Worth’s Transportation and Public Works Department and Ben Pylant P.E., Senior Project Manager with Halff Associates, Inc.  We shared the results of work we’ve done together to address the issues facing Fort Worth due to its “local floodplains”. Jennifer is the City’s lead on the project, Halff is the prime consultant with Ben as project manager, and SCS is the subconsultant for public involvement.

Local floodplains are areas that are too far upstream to be shown on the FEMA 100-year floodplain maps, but that are still known to flood.  Our project has developed recommendations for communication and action to protect public health, safety and property in these areas.  One audience member told us the session was “life-changing”!
