Unexpected Medical Encounters

Terry had his share of medical surprises this year.  The first was a freak fall in Thailand that resulted in a badly torn rotator cuff in his right shoulder.  He had to put up with it for 3 weeks until the termination of the tour.   Surgery in March and 6 months of physical therapy, however, restored his shoulder to its full range of motion.

The rotator cuff surgery took place when he was scheduled to have cataract surgeries for both eyes.  He went ahead with the surgeries a week afterwards.  That too had a silver lining – now he has 20/20 vision without glasses for the first time in 60 years.

The latest malady was a painful leg injury made worse by the steep climbs in the Peruvian Andes.  Fortunately, physical therapy (in both Dallas and Arizona) and continuation of Pilates worked wonders.
