Very Unique – A Total Solar Eclipse in Our Back Yard!
- On February 27, 2025
One of the unique events this year was, of course, the total solar eclipse. Soon after traveling to Columbia, Missouri to experience the eclipse with friends in 2017, we began thinking about what to do this year, when it was happening in our own backyard. It ended up being an amazing spectacle and a great time with friends! We experienced it at the Dallas Arboretum, very near our house. While there were intermittent clouds all morning, they moved out in time for us to enjoy a clear and complete view of the eclipse. It’s so amazing to watch the sun disappear, see the night-time behaviors of wildlife mid-day, and then see the sun appear again!

Most of our group from 2017 reunited this time – Barbara and Dan Williams came from Illinois and Paul Weirich from Connecticut (Terry’s the only one not wearing his 2017 T-shirt). In addition, a college friend of Terry’s, Jackie Dewar, and her daughter Margot joined us from Los Angeles. Though they experienced the eclipse itself with other friends, Karen’s college friends Chris and Mike Perkins joined us for dinner during the festivities.

Our friends had not visited Dallas in a long time, if ever. So we made time for other excursions too. These included the Dallas Museum of Art, The Sixth Floor Museum, White Rock Lake Park and the Trinity River Audubon Center. And of course there were many delicious meals at restaurants and at home.

We may not manage to see another eclipse in our lifetimes, but we certainly did this one up right!
