A New Initiative for Strategic Community Solutions

A New Initiative for Strategic Community Solutions

Strategic Community Solutions continues to provide consulting assistance to the City of Lewisville. When SCS was on the consultant team that worked with the City and community to create its Vision 2025 plan, an organizing question was: what kind of a city does Lewisville want to be when it turns 100 years old in 2025? Back when that plan was adopted in 2014, it seemed like there was a long time to reach that goal. But now we’re here! This year is Lewisville’s Centennial and it’s been a year-long celebration. It’s also the beginning of the process to develop the Vision 2035 plan for the next 10 years. Karen is enjoying working with the City staff and consultants Freese, Nichols, Inc. on this project. She’s also helping the Lewisville Public Library update its strategic plan, completed during the last Vision 2025 update effort in 2019-21.

This year, Karen also has a new initiative to report! nature.city.cool is designed to be a platform for people who have created sustainable, successful and cool communities and places to share their key insights and experiences with young people who are also passionate about cities, nature and design. These stories will be told through short videos, podcasts and blogs. This initiative rolled out at the American Planning Association Texas Chapter conference this fall. So far, Karen has had a lot of positive response and is finding many people who are willing to share their stories. Early next year, she expects to be building partnerships with students and young leaders and shooting the first videos.

At nature.city.cool, you can take quick polls, tell us about places you think are cool, or share your stories about creating sustainable communities. You can also follow us on Facebook and LinkedIn and see where this journey takes us!
