Project Description
Strategic Community Solutions has assisted the Town of Addison on a variety of projects.
Midway South Special Area Study
The Town of Addison updated the work done during the Sam’s Club Special Area Study in 2014, and expanded the study area to include additional property. Through a process including development analysis, stakeholder input and public involvement, a plan for this area was created that directs redevelopment of aging commercial and hotel properties. The City Council adopted the special area study for this 79-acre part of the community in August 2022. Strategic Community Solutions LLC, and subconsultant Kimley-Horn, Inc. assisted the Town with this project.
Addison Circle Special Area Study
The Town of Addison uses Special Area Studies to focus on parts of the community that were identified for additional investigation in the Town’s Comprehensive Plan. The Addison Circle Special Area Study is notable because it includes a future light rail station and connects it to Addison Circle, an internationally-recognized New Urbanist development. SCS was a member of the consultant team selected to conduct this study, which was led by Kimley-Horn, Inc. The project included community engagement, economic analysis, transportation and urban design. It created a Preferred Development Plan for two connected districts, Addison Central and Addison Circle West. It was adopted in December 2018 and is now serving at the design framework for new development as the light rail, DART’s Silver Line, prepares to open.
Sam’s Club Special Area Study
SCS led a team of consultants assisting the Town in its evaluation of revitalization potential for a catalyst part of the Town’s retail area. It included the former site of a Sam’s Club as well as adjacent properties. The Sam’s Club study, which involved analysis of land use and economic market, also included work with a Council-appointed committee and a stakeholder workshop to consider alternatives for possible revitalization to keep the area vibrant as retail trends change. It led to a Preferred Development Plan to direct future investment in this area.
City Council and City Staff Strategic Planning Workshops
SCS designed and conducted a strategic planning retreat for the City Council in June 2014, as well as follow-up sessions to provide additional direction for implementation during fiscal year 2014-2015. This retreat played an important role in helping a divided Council reach agreement on priorities and an approach to collaboration. A similar strategic planning workshop was held for senior City staff.
