Reality at the end of 2018.

So, back to that kaleidoscope.  As we start this year, Karen has a new mix of relationships with family, including co-ownership of her parents’ house in Santa Clara.  Our home and refuge in Dallas is beset by unexpected actions by neighbors.  The balance of professional work and life at home has had a dramatic shift, particularly for Terry.  And the dilemma between seeing new places – before they decline or our abilities fade – and enjoying the people and places we already know gets more and more difficult.  It will be interesting to see what our vantage point is when we get to the end of this year.

Best wishes for a wonderful 2019 — so far and the rest of the year!  We hope we’ll have a chance to see you, and look forward to staying in touch using whatever means works for you. Enjoy!

You can reach us by mail at 990 Easton Place, Dallas TX 75218; by phone or text at 214-505-1286 (Karen) or 214-505-5164 (Terry), by email at [email protected] or [email protected]. Karen is also on Facebook ([email protected]) and on Instagram (karen.walz) if you use those.

Karen and Terry, So many adventures! Passages in family, too. Our 2019 started with three major unexpected health challenges. Clay had taken on a weight loss plan ( fasting ) and took it too far. He ended up in the hospital and rehab! At the same time, a pup I was pet sitting accidentally stepped on my pinky toe and broke it! At the same time, we had a measles epidemic at our school where I work and I had to wait for blood test to prove immunity. Then, on March 1st, I face planted on the sidewalk outside a store in town( running a quick errand) and landed in the the ER with head trauma! At that point, we had to laugh. I had been Clay’s caregiver hobbling around with a broken toe and now he was my caregiver for the mandatory two weeks at home. We looked cute with our matching walkers! So.... can I restart 2019, please!? Love and blessings, Julie and Clay

Great to read about all your adventures & see all the wonderful photos you took. Sad news about your parents, Karen; amazing yet not unheard of for them to pass away so close to each other. I know you miss them greatly; glad you were able to enjoy their company and wisdom for so long. Do let me know if you are in northern CA and have time for more than family/business. I'd enjoy getting together with you!

Wonderful to hear from you and this "blog" has been inspiring. I'm sorry to learn about your family - I know how hard it is to lose them so close together. Please remember that I live in San Mateo and would so love to see you when you are in the Bay Area.

Thanks for sending this. You are right - better late than never! You really put a lot of effort into this and it paid off. This is a great read. I don't know how you pack so much into a year, but I think I know why it took until April to send it out. You sent me to the bird books a couple of times to look stuff up. Cream-backed Woodpecker is amazing!
